Original Item: One of a Kind. From a historical point of view we never hear much about PORTUGAL but in fact the Portuguese at one time had amassed a considerable Empire, including BRAZIL and many smaller holdings in the far east like MACAU and GOA. Also in Africa with Angola and Mozambique. They actually are England's oldest Ally and in the late 1700's got embroiled with the French Revolution and then in the Napoleonic Wars in the early 1800's.

Here is a Cow's horn, about 12 inches long, used as a Powder flask fully carved or SCRIMSHAWED with Portuguese symbols and Coat's of Arms as well as the name of the Owner and where he came from:-

MANOE
JOAQUJM
PALMA

Extensively covered in a Mounted Soldier, a Couple Dancing, wildlife including dogs, goats deer and a snake, even a fish. All set among trees with birds and sundry other symbols. Best of all there is a Portuguese Royal Coat of Arms also engraved on the body of the horn. The wood plug to the large end of the horn is now absent but the securing nail holes are all still very eminent. The detachable plug to the small nozzle on the other end is also missing.

This horn is absolutely genuine and dates to the 18th Century, in no way is this a later copy. A very interesting and very scarce PORTUGUESE Powder Horn dating from anywhere between 1750 and 1800, ready to display!
